Meet Our Therapists

Dana Mellway, RMT

Hello, and thank you for visiting. My name is Dana, and I am an RMT with over 16 years of experience in the field of therapeutic massage.

Over the course of my career, I have had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, each with their own unique needs and goals. I am committed to providing personalized, results-driven care that addresses the root causes of pain and discomfort, rather than simply masking symptoms.

I believe in taking a holistic approach to healing, focusing on the underlying factors contributing to muscle tension, pain, and stress. My philosophy is that lasting relief comes from treating the cause, and indentifying and implementing helpful stretch and strengthening techniques.

To ensure the highest standard of care, I continuously enhance my knowledge and expertise through ongoing education in advanced techniques, including Myofascial Release and Indie Head Massage.

In addition to addressing musculoskeletal issues, I recognize the vital importance of relaxation and stress relief in achieving overall well-being. I strive to create a calming and therapeutic environment where clients can not only find relief from physical tension but also experience mental and emotional rejuvenation.

Whether you're seeking pain management, injury recovery, or simply a moment of relaxation, my goal is to help you feel your best. I look forward to working with you to improve your health, mobility, and overall quality of life.

What To Expect

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) is a healthcare profession in which trained and licensed practitioners use a variety of manual techniques to assess, treat, and prevent physical dysfunctions and discomfort in the body. The goal of the RMT is to improve overall health by targeting specific areas of muscle, connective tissue (such as fascia), and joints. Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) are highly trained and regulated professionals who have completed rigorous education and certification, ensuring that their treatments are both safe and effective.

RMTs use techniques such as Swedish massage, deep tissue therapy, myofascial release, and trigger point therapy to address issues like muscle tension, pain, restricted movement, and stress. The therapeutic techniques they use help improve circulation, reduce muscle tightness, enhance flexibility, and promote relaxation.

What to Expect During an RMT Session

  1. Initial Consultation: Your first visit will typically begin with an intake assessment. The RMT will ask about your medical history, current concerns, any areas of discomfort, and your goals for treatment. This helps the therapist tailor the session to your specific needs. Be prepared to provide details about your lifestyle, posture, and any injuries or conditions you have.

  2. Treatment Plan: Based on your assessment, the therapist will develop a personalized treatment plan. They will explain which techniques they plan to use and how they may benefit you. If you have any preferences or specific areas you would like to focus on, let the therapist know.

  3. The Massage: During the session, the therapist will use various massage techniques to target areas of tension, pain, or discomfort. This can include gentle, flowing strokes (effleurage), kneading, deep tissue manipulation, or more specialized techniques such as myofascial release. Depending on your needs, the pressure applied can range from light to firm. The therapist will check in with you to ensure the pressure is comfortable and effective.

  4. Relaxation and Healing: Registered Massage Therapy promotes not only the relief of physical pain but also relaxation and stress reduction. The therapist may focus on creating a calm environment with dim lighting, soothing music, and a comfortable room temperature to enhance your overall experience.

  5. Post-Treatment Care: After your massage, the RMT may offer advice on self-care, stretching, or exercises to support the treatment and enhance your recovery.

  6. Ongoing Treatment: Depending on the issue you’re addressing, multiple sessions may be recommended. Your therapist will monitor your progress and adjust the treatment plan accordingly to ensure the best results.

Overall, a Massage Therapy treatment is a professional, therapeutic experience designed to promote healing, relieve pain, and support your overall well-being. Whether you’re managing a specific injury, dealing with chronic tension, or simply seeking stress relief, RMT's provides effective care tailored to your individual needs.
